2013 English Examination Practice Series: Week 5, Question 5

This series of single questions are all designed to prepare you for the fast-approaching GCSE English Language examination. If you complete one of these every week, and take on board the feedback I give you, you’ll be in a much stronger position than if you don’t.

This week’s homework question is a WRITING question. This question is trying to determine how well you can use specific language forms (read: devices) when you write. You are required to write in a style appropriate to the task and intended audience. Your spelling and grammar is specifically assessed in this question. It is question five, which can be seen as the simpler of the two writing pieces.

For 16 marks, you would expect to take 25 minutes to answer the question. I recommend that you complete these weekly practices in the time allocated.

QUESTION:

Sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. Describe a decision that you, or someone you know, had to make and explain the consequences.

Your piece will appear in the Real Lives section of your local newspaper. (16 marks)
